On March 8, 2025, the villages of Kanagala and Chikalgudd came alive with the spirit of celebration as women from all walks of life gathered to honor International Women’s Day. The event was not just a gathering but a testament to the strength, resilience, and achievements of rural women.

Among the esteemed guests were Ms. Ondi McMaster, founder of AtelierOM – eco ethical artisanal textile and apparel brand from New York City, and Ms. Sharavva Daroji, the passionate President of the Shramjeevi Foundation, dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities.

As the village square filled with vibrant colors of handwoven fabrics and the laughter of empowered women, Ms. McMaster shared her vision of ethical fashion and how traditional craftsmanship could connect rural artisans to the global market. Inspired by the intricate weaving techniques of local women, she spoke about sustainability and the importance of preserving heritage skills.

Ms. Sharavva Daroji, a beacon of strength in her own right, addressed the gathering with a heartfelt message on self-reliance and the power of collective effort. She encouraged women to take charge of their economic independence, highlighting the success stories of rural entrepreneurs supported by the Shramjeevi Foundation.

The event saw inspiring performances, folk songs, and a showcase of handcrafted textiles by the village women, blending culture with modern aspirations. By the end of the day, the celebration wasn’t just about honoring women—it was about igniting change, weaving a future where tradition and progress go hand in hand.

As the sun set over Kanagala and Chikalgudd, the echoes of empowerment lingered in the air, reminding everyone that when women come together, they create a force unstoppable—just like the threads of a beautifully woven fabric, strong, intricate, and full of purpose.
